Eugene Weekly voted “People’s Choice” BEST BAND 2004: THE SUGAR BEETS
EW talked to Marty Chilla (vocals and acoustic guitar)
Do you really think you deserve to win? What kind of a question is that? I would say, we're honored to be recognized and appreciated by our community, but fundamentally what makes music such a beautiful thing is that it dissolves barriers and hierarchies between people. What's the strangest thing you've ever worn on stage? Scotty wore a three-piece tin foil suit at the Country Fair. Do people ever throw things on stage at you? Yeah, we've got a song called "Naked" and we have people throw their clothes on stage before. We actually have a lost and found box. What was your worst stage disaster? We couldn't turn the fog machine off.
